Traverse City Law Enforcement Hosts Drug Take-Back Day

In an effort to help reduce drug crimes in the area, Saturday is National Drug Take-Back Day.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Traverse City Police Department.

From 10-2p.m. on Saturday, people can bring their unused or expired medications to the Law Enforcement Center in Traverse City, or Grand Traverse Mall.

Officers will safely dispose of the medications.

They say taking these precautions helps prevent drug problems.

“You throw them in your trash thinking they’re going to be disposed of and gotten rid of, well there are people who will go through your trash and take things such as these items,” says Lt. Christ Barsheff. “In the end we’re preventing people from overdosing and harming themselves and ultimately dying.”

For more information on how to properly dispose medications, and the types officers will be collecting visit the DEA website, or Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office website.
