Northwest Community College Helps Community Celebrate Inner Hero

Superheroes of all ages were in Traverse City this morning for the second annual Big Little Hero Race. The race supports the Northwestern Michigan Big Brother Big Sister program by giving people a chance to let their inner superhero shine.

Students of the Northwest Michigan College’s Professional Communications class have been planning the event all semester long and Saturday they saw all their hard work pay off.

Participants could take part in face painting — costumes — silent auctions and 5 and 10K and cooking decorating at Saturday’s event. Northwestern Michigan Big Brother Big Sister Executive Director Cecilia Chessney says, “I think everybody feels really empowered. They’re helping us support our program providing mentors to children in need and at the same time they’re having a great family outing with their family and friends.”

Last year more than $8500 were raised. They’re hoping they’ll pass that once they total everything from Saturday.
