CDC: Zika Virus Confirmed to Cause Microcephaly

The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that microcephaly is in fact caused by the Zika virus.

The CDC says this is the first time in history a virus transmitted through mosquitos has caused birth defects.

The discovery was made through evidence collected from a number of studies.

There are photos from Brazil, a place highly affected by the Zika virus, that shows severe brain damage in babies with microcephaly caused by the virus.

The CDC is advising pregnant women not to travel to affected areas, and to abstain from sex or use condoms if they have a partner who has traveled there.
