Mackinaw City Businesses In Need of Workers, Problem With Temporary Work Visas
Businesses in many seasonal towns across the area are struggling to fill positions for the summer.
Many businesses hire migrant labor.
Hotels and restaurants in Mackinaw City say the process to get temporary work visas is keeping the workers from coming.
While they employ as many locals as possible, they say some positions are harder to fill.
Without the temporary employees, the workload is already piling up.
They say it’ll have a bigger impact than people realize.
"You’re looking at prices going up for hotel rooms and there’s going to be less people coming up, less people eating at restaurants, less need for new construction," Mackinaw Seasonal Resorts owner Joseph Lieghio said.
Business owners say because of this year’s delay they expect to open later than usual.
