Ford F-150 Earns Highest Rating in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Crash Tests
A leading consumer auto safety organization says after crash testing, some large pickup trucks are not as tough as they look.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests replicate what happens when a pickup runs off the road and hits a tree, pole or another vehicle.
IIHS, says the Ford F-150 Supercab earns its top rating, performing best in all of its crash tests.
It says the F-150 is best at helping vehicle occupants withstand serious injuries, especially leg and foot injuries, after a crash.
Rivals from Chevrolet, GMC, Ram and Toyota didn’t fare as well.
The IIHS does not make recommendations to automakers, but encourages them to redesign their vehicles for ultimate passenger safety.
