Goodwill Industries Celebrates Opening of New Traverse City Housing Complex

A new complex is looking to help tackle the growing need for affordable housing in Traverse City.

Friday morning, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan celebrated the opening of a new housing complex.

Carson Square is a 36 unit, one and two bedroom supportive permanent housing site.

Goodwill owns the complex and has worked to provide permanent housing options for people struggling in the area.

They say getting families into supportive housing is the first step, but their services don’t stop there.

“A roof over your head is one of the most foundational pieces to be able to stabilize your life. You know when you have shelter, when you have a safe, clean place to sleep you can work on the other barriers you might be encountering. You can go to your medical appointments, you can seek services and treatment,” says Sakura Raftery, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.

Goodwill says they are continuing to take applications through the end of May.
