Traverse City Planning Commission Approves Division Street Design Changes

One of the busiest streets in Traverse City is one step closer to seeing some changes.

Last night, Traverse City’s Planning Commission approved the design for changes to Division Street

The recommendations from M-DOT would improve Division Street between Grandview Parkway and 14th Street.

A $500,000 study outlines suggestions for the road. Including adding two roundabouts, bike lands, more traffic lights, and sidewalks.

The city planning director wants a design that the community supports.

“There is certainly a strong support to make some modifications to this street. It’s not performing well for walkers, people driving along it they get frustrated. There’s a lot of interesting turning movements for people to try and get across the highway,” says Russ Soyring.

The design now goes before city commissioners.

If they approve it, the city would work to get funding to help with the estimated $13 million project.
