Coast Guard Leaders Meet In Ludington To Discuss Closing Station During Winter

Coast Guard leaders are in Ludington today to talk about the possibility of closing their Coast Guard station during the winter.

The proposal calls for closing the stations in Frankfort and Ludington, while keeping the station in Manistee open through the entire year.

The Coast Guard says this is the best use of their limited resources, because the station in Manistee handles a majority of the calls for help in the winter already.

But, city leaders and first responders worry about safety on the lake.

We have a crew in Ludington and will have more on today’s meeting on 9&10 News at 5 and 6.
