Ferris State University Receives Donation To Help Welding Engineering Program

Ferris State University is getting a very special gift, all to help with local investment in skilled trades.

The Big Rapids school’s welding engineering program now has plenty of welding supplies.

The donation, from Airgas, is valued at $50,000.

It includes welding jackets, hoods, gloves and safety glasses for FSU’s welding students.

They say not only does that help with costs, but safety as well.

“I use these every day, every day I’m in the lab I use a helmet, I use gloves, I use a jacket. It’s really beneficial that we get to use them. Having brand new equipment like this really benefits us our safety,” says Jeff Hardesty, program coordinator.

The students would usually have to buy their own supplies, which could cost several hundred dollars.
