The chairperson of an Upper Peninsula tribe is seeking re-election.
Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Chairperson Aaron Payment is credited with securing $5.5 million in federal funding for Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Services and Contract Support Costs, $455,000 in BIA Inland treaty rights implementation funds and reducing more than $200,000 in taxes.
He announced Monday that he plans to seek re-election and complete the tribe’s "Mandatory Trust" downstate casino approvals.
