Drive Collects Socks to Keep Kids’ Feet Warm
A ‘Warm Toes’ sock drive is on a mission to make sure every kid in Traverse City Area Public Schools keeps warm for the rest of the season.
The sock drive is sponsored by the Traverse City Transportation Association.
Bus driver Marti Alvarez came up with the idea after seeing a young child board the bus crying because her feet were cold.
It doesn’t matter if you have kids in the school system or not.
You can drop off sock donations at any Traverse City public school in the district at any time — or you can send them with your child on the bus.
“Our drivers this whole week have moved from the sidelines, because we’ve always been there for our kids. And I mean always,” Alvarez said. “We moved to the front lines. And we are collecting socks. We are gonna get our kids in warm toasty socks for the rest of the winter.”
Organizers are looking for socks for kids ages four to ten.
Today is the drive’s official last day.
