Blood Drive to Benefit Local 11-Year-Old with Cancer

Tonight a Northern Michigan community is getting together for a blood drive to help an 11-year-old boy whose illness means many trips to the hospital.

MacKale McGuire was born with hemophilia and has been fighting a rare type of bone cancer since October of last year.

For every person who tries to donate, Michigan Blood will give MacKale’s family a $10 gas card.

That money — will help with the McGuire family’s many trips to and from Grand Rapids for MacKale’s treatment.

“We’re really just like students wanting to help another student. MacKale is really big in Cadillac, and so we just decided this would be a great way to help him,” said Cadillac Youth Advisory Committee Members Sarah Catlin and Paige Fiet.

It goes from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Mackinaw Trail Middle School in Cadillac.
