Osceola Township Voters Decide on Road Millage

And Michigan voters aren’t just deciding today who they want to see in the White House.

There are also a number of local issues on some ballots.

Osceola Township had voters trickle in all day.

They’re weighing in on a new millage to maintain the township’s roads.

"It’s a daily conversation no matter where you go people are talking about the roads," said Leetha Zeeryp.

More money for roads in Osceola Township. They’re asking voters to pay more for the improvements.

"It’s a 2 mill over 4 years. It will be in its own separate account. We got feedback from our residents at regular board meetings saying they would like to see the funds stay more local for road maintenance so we are trying to be more proactive with that," said Melanie Wirth.

The proposal would mean homeowners with 100 thousand dollar taxable value would pay 200 dollars more a year. Some voters say the extra money is needed for the roads.

"They’re rough and that they need work done on them somehow or another. Some people wonder if they’ve gone too far and that it’s impossible to repair," said Leetha Zeeryp.

But not everyone plans to vote for the road millage.

"I can’t share any more of my income. I’m caught between a rock and a hard place they keep asking for more and I don’t have more to give," said Benny Logic.

Still, the general consensus, the roads need work, however it’s paid for.

"I want good roads but there has to be a different way of funding it," said Benny Logic.

The township says they’re asking the people for support, because the county doesn’t have enough money to cover the cost of repairing their roads.
