Warm Weather Cutting Cross Country Ski Season Short

While the warm weather has many eager for spring, others are hoping for one last snow fall.

During the winter months, TART Trails grooms their trails for cross country skiing, but with not enough snow to groom until January and Monday’s warm weather, the season may get cut short.

They say snow and below freezing temperatures until April would be ideal.

Brian Beuchamp, Outreach and Program Director for TART Trails says, “We can’t groom or generally don’t unless the temperatures are below freezing so we’re kind of a wait and see holding pattern and the extended forecast through the week doesn’t look like temperatures will drop below freezing so right now we’ll have to wait until Mother Nature tells us that winter’s back.”

Tart trails is contracted with the Michigan DNR to groom trails until the end of March.
