Senate Passes Bill to Improve Pipeline Safety and Oversight

The Senate passed legislation that will help improve pipeline safety and oversight.

U.S. Senator Gary Peters and several senators introduced the bill to reauthorize the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration through 2019.

The Safe Pipes Act legislation designates the Great Lakes as an unusually sensitive area, making pipelines subject to higher standards of operating safely.

It also improves oil spill response plans to address ice cover.
