American Student Detained in N. Korea Makes First Media Appearance Since Arrest

An American student detained in North Korea since January was presented to the media by North Korean authorities Monday.

It’s the first time that Otto Warmbier has been seen since North Korea announced his arrest on January 22nd.

The country claims the University of Virginia student was detained for perpetrating a hostile act against the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea.

Warmbier apologized for stealing a political banner from a staff only area of an international hotel where he was staying.

Warmbier says he’s impressed by the Korean government’s humanitarian treatment of severe criminals like himself and of their fair legal procedures.
