Sightseeing in Northern Michigan: Kari Lynch
Sometimes in the midst of a great journey, we just need to go home.
A singer and songwriter from Clare is following her dreams in Nashville.
But when it came time to shoot her first video she sought out the people she knows best.
9&10 chief photojournalist Corey Adkins gives us a look at Kari Lynch’s music video shoot in today’s Sightseeing in Northern Michigan.
“I’m so excited, because I am shooting the music video for my first single on the album. It’s a song called ‘Sweetheart’, and right when I started visualizing music for it was like I wanted to be in Clare, Michigan.
I sort of wrote this song as if I was writing it to a 17-year-old me. And sort of the things I wish I would have known or been able to tell myself, like it’s going to be OK, you know there’s life after this, there’s life after this high school boyfriend or this terrible thing that happened or this thing that made me sad.
I think when you’re 17, your world is sort of here and it’s really hard to see past it, and it’s nice to have that person or voice that says ‘it’s going to be OK’.
I think when you’re young, there’s so many things that can block you from doing the thing that you want to do. There’s so many heartbreaks and so many let downs, and that’s the overall message that, like, follow your dreams because it gets better and you can sometime in the future look back at this experiences and go ‘I got past that’ and you can be where you want to be.
I think that’s probably more than anything the overall message, that there’s so much life out there, don’t let anything stop you, don’t let a letdown stop you, because there’s so much more, there’s so much more to get after.
It’s been incredible the way this town has come together to help me make this. It’s been a Clare, Michigan, effort. And the fact that this video is inspired so much by my hometown, it’s just been incredible.”
Kari would like to thank the following people who helped make the video for "Sweetheart" happen.
"Clare High School / Middle School for letting us shoot there and Principal Hubel & Terri Beatty for helping us cast the kids in the video! They were so wonderful!"
