Dearborn Heights Man Accused of Supporting Islamic State Returns to Federal Court

Continuing coverage on a Detroit area man accused of planning to attack a church.

The Dearborn Heights man returned to federal court Tuesday.

He is not charged with terrorism-related crimes, but investigators say Khalil Abu-Rayyan threatened a church, police, and others in support of the Islamic state.

He has been in custody for about two weeks on a gun charge.

His father says he’ll take responsibility for his son if a judge releases him on bond.

The FBI says the young man has expressed support for Islamic state on social media.
