What’s Happening In Northern Michigan: Sleigh Ride and Dinner, Romancing the Riesling, Chili Cook Off

If Valentine’s Day plans slipped your mind up until this week — don’t worry.

There’s still time to plan, and there is still plenty to do!

Courtney Sheffer has a few options for you to consider this week with What’s Happening In Northern Michigan.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day on Saturday the 13th by treating your valentine to a followed by dinner in Petoskey.

Starting at 5:30, rides leave every half hour from the Terrace Inn, and are narrated by your sleigh driver for a cozy tour of Petoskey.

Rides may be reserved on their own, or you have the option to add on a three course dinner at the 1911 restaurant after your ride to enjoy dishes including chicken Hemingway, slow cooked spareribs, and char-crusted top sirloin.

Enjoy local Riesling wines expertly paired with delectable treats this Saturday with the wineries of Old Mission Peninsula at their "" event. Each winery will be offering samples of their best Riesling paired with delicious treats.

Desserts include Roquefort walnut cheesecake at Black Star Farms, curried carrot soup at Brys Estate, mini almond cupcakes at Peninsula Cellars and sweet lemon tarts at Chateau Grand Traverse.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and tickets may be purchased in advance online.

Mackinac Island will play home to the on Sunday, February 14.

This annual event takes place right downtown on Mackinac Island, where chefs, both amateur and professional, duke it out to serve the best chili.

Visitors can buy a scorecard and sample the chili for a small fee.

It’s a great way to stay warm while exploring the island in winter.
