Family Suing Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department Over Inmate Suicide

A family is suing the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department and a deputy they say failed to keep an eye on a man who killed himself in jail.

The family of Raymond Holmes says the deputy at the Mecosta County jail was watching football on TV with other inmates when Holmes killed himself.

The family also claims the deputy left his keys in a different room, and had to go get them, slowing his response time.

The lawsuit says it took 30 minutes for Holmes to be taken to the hospital, where he died two days later.
