Hook & Hunting: 6th Annual Osborn’s Big Ice Fishing Contest

Preparations are underway for the 6th Annual Osborn’s Big Ice Fishing Contest in Benzie and Manistee counties.

Soon ice anglers will be able to drill a hole in any lake in the two counties.

It’s expected that Portage and Bear Lakes in Manistee County will be covered with shanties from all over Michigan and nearby states.

All hoping to get the biggest pike, walleye, perch, bluegill or crappie.

Organizers say it’s a great way to get to know the lakes and the community.

“You get to learn a lot of the lakes around here. People come from all over. They get to learn some of the good spots on the lake and hopefully they’ll come eventually back up here next weekend or weekend after and it will be really good ice then too.” Says Dan Osborn a contest organizer

Anglers can get started as early as midnight Thursday.

The tournament runs through Sunday.
