Petition Submitted to Stop Nuclear Waste Dump Near Lake Huron

A group has submitted a petition against a plan to bury nuclear waste near one of the Great Lakes.

Ontario Power Generation wants to bury 7.1 million cubic feet of nuclear waste less than a mile from Lake Huron.

The company says the waste would be surrounded by rock and wouldn’t hurt the lake, but opponents think it’s too risky.

A group called "Stop the Great Lakes Nuclear Dump" sent the petition with more than 92,000 signatures to the Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

A decision on the plan is expected by March first.
