A man behind two Northern Michigan nonprofits passed away, and now there is a scholarship fund in his honor.
The Maritime Heritage Alliance has announced the ways you can contribute to the Tom Kelly Scholarship Fund.
Tom was a founding member of the Maritime Heritage Alliance back in 1982, and he went on to create the Inland Seas Education Association.
He was a fisheries biologist and a boat surveyor by trade, and his love for wooden boats was a perfect match for Northern Michigan waterways.
His friend, Bob Core, says Tom was part of a tight-knit group.
“They thought very highly of Tom, very highly. He was a great organizer of things having to do with the fishing industry,” says Bob.
Supporters of scholarship education programs, or those who would like to honor Tom Kelly’s memory can make contributions out to the “Tom Kelly Scholarship Fund”.
