Hook & Hunting: Natural Resources Commission Meeting

The monthly Natural Resources Commission meeting took place Thursday.

Added to their agenda was a joint meeting with the Michigan Travel Commission.

Officials shared goals on increasing tourism in the state, and how natural resources can be incorporated.

Fishers and wildlife committees also held meetings and shared ideas moving forward.

A big topic included the current ban on sound suppressors for hunters.

“We’re working with the industry, we’re working with our law division to make sure we understand the good and the bads, the ins and the outs, to see if we can make something to satisfy the folks and still accomplish what we want to accomplish,” says John Matonich, chairman of Natural Resources Commission.

NRC officials say it was exciting to talk with Michigan Travel to help increase tourism from a natural resources standpoint.
