Chippewa County Man Accused of Attacking Officers

A Chippewa County man is in trouble for attacking two officers with a knife while on probation.

Court documents say it happened in August on the Bay Mills Indian Reservation.

Tribal police responded to a call that Eric Verwiebe assaulted someone, then broke into his sister’s house, took a knife and left.

The two tribal officers caught up with him.

That’s when the complaint says Verwiebe raised the knife and threatened to kill them.

They tasered him and went to arrest him, but Verwiebe fought back.

They eventually got him in the patrol car.

The officers say Verwiebe spit on them twice and continued to threaten them.

His probation officer recommends Verwiebe’s probation be revoked.
