Sightseeing In Northern Michigan: Star Wars, The Force Awakens

As most everyone knows, Thursday is the big day.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will finally be released to the masses of Star Wars fans.

So we wanted to see what the big deal is about.

For Sightseeing in Northern Michigan, Corey Adkins and Michelle Dunaway went to the to find out.

“I think it’s a film that speaks to people’s, it preserves people’s youth, any age sees this movie and they are instantly taken back to when their imagination was at its ripest, and so it makes people feel young again,” says Terry Osterhout, Charlevoix III Cinema manager.

You can feel it in the air.

Almost more powerful than the force itself is the anticipation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“I think this is the biggest we have ever seen, and I don’t know how the others will do following it, a lot depends on how good it is, but I think it’s going to be the number one selling movie of all time,” predicts Terry.

This all started 37 years ago when Star Wars: A New Hope stole the imaginations of millions. This movie would create a new type of fan.

“If you look at the original trilogy, it was just three very simple films that exploded, and so I think people wanted to see a sequel like this ever since then,” says Terry.

Now the series spans generations.

“I think it’s pretty cool that it’s hit a lot of generations, because there’s the old ones that hit my parents and their parents who took them, and the middle generation, which is between my dad’s generation and my generation, then there is this new trilogy which is going to hit my generation and my kids,” says Star Wars fan Grace Ochs.

There’s very little we know about the plot, but we do know the old meets the new.

“I’m excited. I think they have done a great job of casting it, from what I’ve seen so far, and the smartest thing they could have done, and the hype wouldn’t be as big had they not gotten the original cast of actors to pass the torch to the next generation. That was so smart because we would all be excited but not this excited,” says Terry.

And talk about exciting, all Star Wars fans will forever remember the first time they heard…

“When we watched that trailer, when Han Solo said to Chewy ‘we are home’ we watched that probably 50 times over the course of a week and got chills up our spines, so it was very exciting,” says Terry.

Grace says, “I got really excited and I smiled really big, I text some of my friends and told them you have to watch the new trailer right now.”

Soon, millions of people will have seen The Force Awakens and conversations across America will center on whether audiences liked the movie or not.

All we can say right now is the ride has been out of this world.

“I think it’s wonderful for the family to have something we can all share and enjoy together and talk about, and that doesn’t happen with all movie,” explains Star Wars fan Lani Ochs.

Terry adds, “I hope they are still making them when I’m 90.”
