Senate Taking on Bill Aimed at Protecting People from Prescription Drug Overdose Charges

Proposed legislation could protect people younger than 21 from criminal charges when reporting a prescription drug overdose in the state of Michigan.

The bill exempts people age 20 and younger from being prosecuted for using prescription drugs illegally, if a health emergency is reported to police.

The Senate is expected to approve the bill Wednesday, then it will move on to the House.

Supporters hope the new measure eliminates the fear of getting in trouble when someone’s life is in danger.
