National Cherry Festival Named 2015 Air Show Site of the Year

Traverse City received quite the honor from the U.S. Air Force this week.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds announced at the International Council of Air Shows that the National Cherry Festival was named the 2015 Air Show Site of the Year.

This award comes after the Thunderbirds returned to Traverse City this past summer for the 2015 National Cherry Festival.

It was the first time they were back in 25 years.

“We’re just always excited to have such high caliber performers come to Traverse City," says Trevor Tkach, executive director of the National Cherry Festival. "There’s nothing more patriotic than those who serve our country here to put on that performance over Fourth of July weekend. We should all feel very lucky that they’re here celebrating with us on Independence Weekend.”

The Thunderbirds also announced they will return in 2017 for opening weekend of the National Cherry Festival.
