Ferris State’s Zimmer named Cliff Harris Award nominee

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State senior defensive lineman Justin Zimmer has been named a nominee for the 2015 Cliff Harris Award, which is presented to the country’s top small college defensive player.

Zimmer, who led the Bulldogs to an 11-1 season and a second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, is also nominated for the Gene Upshaw Award, which is presented to the nation’s top offensive or defensive lineman.

Presented annually by The Little Rock Touchdown Club, the Cliff Harris Award recognizes the nation’s top small college defensive player among NCAA II, III and NAIA colleges and universities. The winner will be announced on Dec. 24 and honored at The Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet on February 2016.

A three-time All-GLIAC First Team honoree, Zimmer led the Bulldogs this fall in total tackles (81), tackles for loss (26), sacks (13), forced fumbles (four) and pass breakups (five).
