Ferris State’s Vander Laan named GLIAC Player of the Year

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State senior quarterback and reigning Harlon Hill Trophy Award winner Jason Vander Laan was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.

Vander Laan led the Bulldogs to their second consecutive unbeaten regular season and second straight GLIAC Championship while becoming college football’s greatest rushing quarterback of all-time by rushing for 1,319 yards and passing for an additional 2,239 yards this fall.

By averaging nearly 356 yards per game this season, the senior also became the GLIAC’s all-time career total offense leader and was chosen as one of 12 finalists for the Campbell Trophy.

Second-ranked Ferris State opens its Division II postseason run Saturday, hosting Texas A&M-Commerce at noon.
