Consumers Energy Warns About the Dangers of High Winds

Today’s stormy weather is already producing strong winds and rain throughout northern Michigan.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Lake Michigan shorelines. Some advisories are lasting until Friday.

Northern Michigan’s news leader talked to Roger Morgenstern from Consumers Energy on Michigan This Morning. He said while there’s not much damage in the northern Michigan area, winds could get strong enough to bring down power lines later in the day. Morgenstern said it’s important to stay safe and to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed power line.

"A down wire can electrify whatever it touches, be it the wet ground, a fence or a tree," he said. "So never assume that wire is a cable TV wire or a telephone wire. Assume that it is live, and then give 911 and Consumers Energy a call."

Stay with northern Michigan’s news leader as we continue to cover the changing conditions.
