Gordon Lightfoot Visits Whitefish Point On Eve of 40th Anniversary of Edmund Fitzgerald Sinking
A special visitor stopped by Whitefish Point Monday on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum Monday afternoon.
He met with family members who lost loved ones on the Fitzgerald when it sank 40 years ago.
Lightfoot wrote the famous song "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" about that tragic night.
“It’s a wonderful effect, you get that total communication talking about something that actually happened like a true story," says Lightfoot.
Northern Michigan’s News Leader will have live reports from Whitefish Point on 9&10 News at 5 and 6.
Then, a special presentation takes you through the tragedy that killed 29 men, the legend that grew out of the wreck and we’ll take you live to the annual memorial ceremony at Whitefish Point with The Edmund Fitzgerald: A 40-year Legend at 7 Tuesday evening on Fox 32.
