AP Football Poll: MSU 14, Michigan 15

Michigan State’s 39-38 loss to Nebraska Saturday dropped the Spartans eight spots in the latest Associated Press college football poll.

However, MSU (8-1) stayed ahead of in-state rival Michigan (7-2).  Michigan State is ranked 14th this week with the Wolverines right behind them at 15.

The Spartans beat the Wolverines with a fumble return for a touchdown in the final seconds of their matchup October 18th.

The Wolverines moved up one spot in this week’s poll after a 49-16 victory against Rutgers.

The College Football Playoff Committee releases its latest rankings Tuesday night.  The top four teams chosen by the playoff committee advance to the College Football Playoffs and play for a berth into the National Championship Game.

The AP also followed the playoff committee at the top of their poll.  The AP had unbeaten Ohio State atop their rankings for the first ten weeks of the season.  However the committee put Clemson atop their first rankings of the year.  The AP now also has the Tigers ahead of the Buckeyes.

The Spartans and Wolverines each sit one game behind Ohio State in the Big Ten East division standings.  MSU visits Ohio State November 21st.  Michigan hosts the Buckeyes the following week.  Those games will determine who represents the East in the Big Ten Championship Game December 5.
