Oakland County Same-Sex Couple Granted Adoption of Five Children

The Michigan same-sex couple who helped pave the way for gay marriage in the United States is now expanding their family.

Jayne Rowse and April Deboer were granted the adoption of five children Thursday in Oakland County.

The couple sued the state back in 2012 to challenge Michigan’s restrictions on joint adoption.

Later, it went on to fight the ban on gay marriage.

Michigan’s ban was overturned in 2014.

In June, the U.S. supreme court granted all same-sex couples the right to marry.

Rowse and Deboer married in August.
