Teal Pumpkin Project Brings Non-Allergenic Options To Trick-Or-Treaters

For Trick-or-Treaters with food allergies, be on the lookout for the teal pumpkin.

The Teal Pumpkin Project was designed to give children who may not be able to have some kinds of candy a safe way to Trick-or-Treat.

Families can either put a teal-colored pumpkin on their porch or a project sign to tell Trick-or-Treaters they are participating.

Allergists say it’s an important way to teach people about food allergies while still enjoying Halloween.

"I think the project is reassuring for those patients who have severe food allergies and are anxious about trick-or-treating," says Dr. Martin Dubravec, an allergist in Cadillac. "It offers a level of confidence that they may not otherwise have or allows them not to have to worry as much."
