Lake Superior State hockey hosting Pink in the Rink
SAULT STE. MARIE – The Lake Superior State hockey program is hosting its eighth annual Pink in the Rink event on Saturday when it welcomes in Alabama-Huntsville to Taffy Abel Arena.
The event has raised more than $125,000 in the previous seven years, with proceeds going back to the community.
“The community has been wonderful to work with,” Pink in the Rink chairperson Angela Whitten said. “The community is great about giving funds or donations or offering time and offering to help.”
Fans can bid on prize baskets and silent auction items, including a jersey signed by current Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill, other Red Wings memorabilia and an all-access Laker hockey fan experience.
“This weekend is great…..we have the best crowds of the year,” LSSU captain “Austin McKay said. “It’s such a great atmosphere at the Taffy…but it is definitely a reminder that there bigger things than hockey.”
Money raised from this year’s event will benefit War Memorial Hospital’s new oncology unit.
Saturday’s game is slated for a 7:07 p.m. start, with doors opening at the Norris Center at 3:30 p.m.
