Mount Pleasant’s Timber Town Getting a Makeover

Changes are coming to a Mount Pleasant playground that’s been a community staple for two decades.

Timber town was built more than 20 years ago.

Now the city says it needs some TLC.

Timber Town playground is in Island Park in Mount Pleasant.

It was built in 1994 with help from the whole community.

After 21 years the city says it’s starting to deteriorate.

The wooden structure is still safe for kids but it’s clearly getting old.

They’ve budgeted roughly $250,000 to make changes to the playground.

“We definitely don’t want to forget about the blood sweat and tears that went into that first design so we definitely want to honor that in some way and we have ideas but we haven’t solidified all of that’s yet into the direction we want to take,” says Mount Pleasant Parks and Open Spaces director Chris Bundy.

Construction won’t start until next October.

Until then, the parks department is asking for public input on what should be done.
