Ferris State’s Holley, Vander Laan honored by GLIAC

BIG RAPIDS – For the fourth time this fall, Ferris State senior quarterback and reigning Harlon Hill Trophy Award reciepent Jason Vander Laan has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The senior became the GLIAC’s all-time leader in total offense in a 56-21 win at Tiffin last Saturday, accounting for 354 total yards of offense and four touchdowns in three quarters of action. Vander Laan completed 14-of-16 passes for 2-3 yards and two scores and carried the ball for a game-high 151 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns.

Vander Laan is also on the verge of becoming the leading rushing quarterback in the history of college football at any level, needing 71 yards entering Saturday’s game against Ohio Dominican.

Junior linebacker David Holley also received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, tallying six tackles and two tackles for a loss in the win over Tiffin. Holley also had a sack and forced a fumble.

The Bulldogs host Ohio Dominican Saturday at noon.
