EPA Ordered To Rewrite Regulations of Ballast Water Discharges From Ships

A federal appeals court ruled the government must rewrite regulations of ballast water discharges from ships.

It’s one of the biggest ways invasive species spread through U.S. waterways.

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

It argued EPA regulations weren’t strong enough to keep vessels from bringing harmful organisms like zebra mussels, which have caused a lot of damage in the Great Lakes.

The court said the EPA faulted in a number of ways.
