Boats Washed Ashore Recovered from Grand Traverse Bay

Four boats anchored on the west end of Grand Traverse Bay came loose yesterday as waves crashed into the shore.

Traverse City Police say some of those waves were four feet high and pushed the boats onto their sides, even, back to shore.

A towing company has since removed them from the water.

Most were okay, but one boat owner got some bad news this morning.

“One of the sailboats the company was able to get up this morning has a hole in the side of it from the waves pounding on it and it hitting the rocks,” said Traverse City Police Sergeant Keith Gillis.

The owner’s been told and will have to pay a recovery fee.

Police remind boat owners to watch the weather and anchor boats properly.
