Michigan Youth Deer Hunt this Weekend

It is once again time for the annual youth deer hunt across the state of Michigan.

Anyone under the age of 16 this weekend can participate in the hunt along with hunters with disabilities.

Youth under 14 may hunt with archery and crossbow on public or private late or with a firearm on private land only.

Hunters under 10 must be licensed through the mentored youth hunting program and accompanied by a qualified mentor.

The DNR says this weekend’s hunt is a great way to get youth out in the woods and introduce them to hunting.

“It’s pretty exciting because it’s their weekend where we all get excited for October 1st or November 15th, this is their weekend to get excited. For this weekend for both youth hunters and hunters with disabilities, they need a deer or a deer combo license," said Katie Keen of the Michigan DNR.

The bag limit for this year’s hunt is one deer.

And as always, the DNR reminds everyone to wear hunter orange.
