Petoskey building off historic 2014 season

PETOSKEY – After an historic 87th season on the gridiron, the Petoskey football program is eyeing an even better 88th year.

With seven consecutive winning seasons under their belt, and fresh off their first district championship in program history, the Northmen are continuing to lay the foundation for an extended postseason run.

“It was a great year last year and a lot of these kids are back that played on that team,” Petoskey coach Kerry VanOrman said. “Winning the district title is something that they’ll have in the memory bank for the rest of their lives. The kids are working hard, and it’s nice to have a scrimmage. I think the kids get a little tired of hitting themselves and were really hit someone else, so we’re all excited for this week, probably like all the other teams area.”

With a 48-man roster, including 13 returning starters, Petoskey has its sights looked on claiming its first Big North Conference championship since 2011.

Petoskey kicks off its season Friday, hosting Sault Ste. Marie.
