Sellers begins second stint with TC St. Francis

TRAVERSE CITY – A familiar face is back roaming the Traverse City St. Francis sidelines this fall.

Josh Sellers, who guided the Gladiators to Division 7 state championships in 2003 and 2005, is back for his second stint with his alma mater after departing at the end of the 2007 season.

Sellers, who went 57-7 in five seasons (2003-2007) with the Gladiators, is excited to be back home.

“The old saying is that you can’t ever go home again, but everyone here has been very welcoming and very open,” Sellers said. “Our number one goal is to win the conference. We expect to be in the playoffs, and really, we’re trying to get to Ford Field Thanksgiving weekend.”

In addition to capturing two state titles during Sellers’ first tenure, St. Francis posted one state runner-up finish (2007) and won five consecutive Lake Michigan Conference titles (2003-07).

With more than 80 players spread out among the varsity, junior varsity and freshman programs, Sellers says he’s looking forward to the challenge that the Northern Michigan Football League will present.

St. Francis opens its season on Aug. 28, hosting Marquette.
