Big Rapids Crossroads football welcomes in new coach
BIG RAPIDS – Big Rapids Crossroads is kicking off its second season of 8-man football with a new head coach, as Scott Pedigo takes over coaching duties.
With a current roster of just 12 student-athletes, the Cougars will look to improve upon last year’s first-ever postseason appearance in the program’s eight years of existence.
After opening their 2014 campaign with four consecutive losses, the Cougars ended the regular season with five straight wins to secure a playoff berth. Last year’s 5-5 record was also just the second time in eight seasons that Crossroads had finished at .500.
Playing an independent schedule this fall, Crossroads has challenged itself with games against defending state champion Lawrence and 2014 state semifinalist Peck, as well as first-year 8-man programs Manistee Catholic Central, Covert and Peck.
“I think we upped our schedule, competition wise, compared to last year so that when we get into the playoffs, we’re more competitive than last year,” Pedigo said. “I know it was nice and great for the program to get there. Now we want to do something beyond just getting there. We want to compete.”
Crossroads opens its season at Manistee Catholic Central on Aug. 28. The Cougars then welcome in New Haven Merritt on Sept. 3.
