Beach Bums power past Slammers

TRAVERSE CITY – Brandon Jacobs drove in three runs to lead the Traverse City Beach Bums to a 6-2 win over the Joliet Slammers at Wuerfel Park Friday night for their third straight win. 

Jose Vargas had the bats going early for the Beach Bums (44-29) with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first. Jacobs then followed up with an RBI double to put the Beach Bums ahead 2-0 after the first.

Traverse City tacked on a pair of insurance runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, with Jacobs putting the game out of reach in the sixth on a two-run home run to left field, handing the Beach Bums a 6-1 lead.

Ian MacDougall was strong in eight innings on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out five. MacDougall improved to 3-0 this season against the Slammers, while the Beach Bums ran their record to 7-0 over Joliet this season in the process.

The Beach Bums continue their series with the Slammers Saturday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
