U.P. County Road Development Causes Controversy

The development of a new county road is causing controversy in the Upper Peninsula.

The County Road Commission has filed a lawsuit against the federal government after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency put an end to County Road 595 in Marquette County.

The EPA says the road would disrupt forested wetlands and stream crossings, and they denied approval permits.

The road would run 21 miles through five townships.

It also would provide a direct route between a mining operation at Eagle Mine and the company's processing mill in Humboldt.
