Oak Wilt Spreads Across Michigan

A fungal disease is starting to worry a group of foresters at the Otsego Conservation District.

Foresters say the heaviest concentration of Oak Wilt is in Roscommon County.

Oak Wilt is a fungal disease that kills trees in the red oak family and there have been confirmed cases across Michigan.

The DNR is working to prevent the disease from spreading by using machinery to sever tree roots in state forests and protected areas.

The disease is transported by beetles and can spread through tree roots.

If you suspect a tree has oak wilt, contact your local conservation district.
