Kids Create Castles for National Cherry Festival Sand Sculpting Contest

The sand sculpting competition is just one of many traditions at the National Cherry Festival.

Friday, kids of all ages were facing off on West Grand Traverse Bay, shoveling buckets of sand and working on their creations.

They have a time limit to build their castles are judged on things like creativity, imagination, detail and design.

“They should come out because it’s fun, the weather is great, kids enjoy it, we have a lot of free stuff to give away, sand buckets, it’s a great time for families to come out and enjoy the weather,” says event director Daniel Carlskin.

This year’s sand sculpting contest is sponsored by Team Elmer’s, and the winners will take home some new sand toys.
