Derek Bailey Resigns From Tribal Council
Derek Bailey has resigned from his position with The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians’ Tribal Council.
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians say Derek Bailey tendered his immediate resignation on July 2.
Derek Bailey is currently facing five sex crime charges in Leelanau County.
Bailey is accused of sexually abusing two underage victims over a period of seven years.
He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct.
Tribal citizen Tanya Raphael was appointed to fill the vacant position until the next regularly scheduled election in May 2016.
