Sault Ste. Marie Parking Meters to Allow Credit Card Payment

A Northern Michigan downtown is updating their parking meters to allow for credit card payment.

Meters in the downtown area of Sault Ste. Marie will be getting decals on all meters to allow for mobile payment.

Each decal has a meter number you can input into the app, Park Mobile, or over the phone to pay with your credit card for an extra $.35.

You'll be notified when your time is almost up so you can either return to your car or add more money to make parking more convenient for everyone.

"We care a lot about the people who live, work, and visit here," Downtown Development Authority Manager Justin Knepper said, "so giving people that extra added option for parking convenience is really important for us."

Ninety percent of meter money goes to help with snow removal in the winter.

The system is expected to be ready in the coming weeks and will not affect current free parking.
